What's the difference between Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani?

I want to get my boyfriend something really really nice for Christmas; so I was looking at the Emporio Armani watch, but they seem kind of cheap. I thought that Armani was a really nice designer, not a cheap one? Or is it like Marc Jacob's "Marc by Marc Jacobs" line, which is pretty much a cheaper version of Marc Jacobs.
